Trooper found dead, State Police say gunshot was self-inflicted

UPDATE - 6/30 4:30PM: State Police say Trooper Kersten Williams was killed by a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

ORIGINAL POST - 6/30 10:00AM: An autopsy is scheduled today on the body of an off-duty State Trooper found shot to death in the area of Nassau Lake.

State Police say boaters found the body of Kerstin Williams, 27, off of Lake Shore Drive around 9 p.m. Sunday night. A gun was found near her body. She was an 18-month veteran of the force. State Police in Schodack are investigating.

The incident occurred in the area of Nassau Lake in the Town of Nassau, Rensselaer County, according to Major Steven James. Williams was assigned to Troop F, SP Liberty and resided in Nassau.
