The call first came in around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night and by 10:45 p.m. patrols had made three arrests, one of the suspects is charged under the NYS SAFE Act, the new gun law, police said.
Raysheem Washington, 25, of Troy is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon (2nd Degree), Criminal Possession of a Weapon (3rd Degree), the SAFE Act, Obstruction of Governmental Administration (2nd Degree), Resisting Arrest and Possession of Marijuana. He was arraigned Wednesday morning in Troy Police Court.
Police took a call of a shots-fired call in the area of Jefferson and Third Streets. Later, three suspects were seen on Second St. in the area of Madison St. Two were arrested but Washington ran from the scene, police said.
Officer Charles Rockwell gave chase and caught Washington but there was a fight. During the fight, Washington reached for his right side where police found a fully-loaded .9 mm handgun with 13 rounds of ammunition, police said.
Rockwell broke his hand and was treated at Samaritan Hospital.
