Trooper Hurt During Traffic Stop

During a traffic stop Friday morning at 6:43 a.m. in the work zone between Exits 24 and 23 of the Thruway,

Trooper George Varghese was hit. Authorities say he had pulled a vehicle over and as he was getting out, Varghese saw a 2010 Dodge Ram pick-up truck coming up fast. Varghese got back into his marked car, a 2006 Chevy Tahoe, and was hit by the truck, police said.

That pick-up then continued on, without stopping, driving off the right shoulder in several locations and finally hit a guide rail and stopping, near the Delaware Avenue overpass. The driver, Stephen Milan, 58, of Middle Grove suffered from a diabetic shock and was treated and released at Albany Med.

Trooper Varghese was also treated at Albany Med for back and neck pain.
