Teen admits role in slayings

One of two teenage boys accused of killing two other teens has pleaded guilty in Fonda. Matt Phelps, 16, of the town of Florida pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, admitting he took part in the shootings of Johnathan DeJesus, 13, and Paul Damphier, 16, both of Amsterdam, last year.

He's expected to be sentenced July 11 to from 15 years to life in prison under the terms of a plea bargain Wednesday in Montgomery County Court. As part of the deal, he agreed to testify against Anthony Brasmeister, 16, of Amsterdam, who's facing two counts of second-degree murder.

The victim's bodies were found in a soybean field outside Amsterdam on July 19, nine days after they were reported missing.
