A former state senator who embezzled nearly $88,000 from her own state-funded nonprofit is going to prison for a year. Shirley Huntley apologized for her crime as she was sentenced Thursday. She had faced up to two years behind bars. Huntley was defeated for re-election last year. Federal prosecutors last week revealed Huntley had been working with them to expose corruption--secretly recording nine people in her home. Two so far--Democrat Senators Malcolm Smith and John Sampson--have been arrested.
