Judge rules against Dennis Drue ahead of Northway crash trial

A new pre-trial development in the upcoming trial of a man accused of killing 2 Shenendehowa students in a crash on the Northway last December.

A judge has ruled against the defense’s request to keep statements Dennis Drue made at the scene of the December 1st accident out of the trial. Judge Jerry Scarano concludes that statements Drue made before troopers read him his rights were simply roadside questioning and as such were not subject to Miranda laws. The judge said statements allegedly made by Drue to an EMT are also admissible in court because the EMT is not a public servant engaged in law enforcement.

The crash killed Deanna Rivers and Chris Stewart. Two other teens, Bailey Wind and Matt Hardy survived, although they were seriously injured.
