Cohoes Police are looking for a man who was trying to pass himself off as a cop by showing a "picture" of a badge on a smart phone. It happened Tuesday evening around 8:00 p.m. when the man approached two teenage girls sitting at a picnic table and showed them the phone and suggested they were doing something illegal, police said.
When he did it a second time, the screen had the statement: "What about sex" The man then ran away.
The suspect is described as 5’8”, 150 lbs., dark bluish-grey sunken eyes, in his late 50’s-60’s with salt and pepper hair, unshaven with a mole on the right side of his face between the lip and his nose. Police say he was wearing a grey t-shirt with dark lettering, a dark grey and blue baseball hat; dark blue pants and sneakers. The man showed a pair of handcuffs that he kept in a blue pouch on his belt and had a large black flashlight, police said.
The man was last seen leaving on foot, police said, and ask if anyone has any information about this or any similar incidents, call 911 or the Cohoes Police Tip Line at 518-233-2161. They say that anyone approached by someone claiming to be a Police Officer, in plain clothes, should request an official ID card and badge and verify the identity by calling 911.
