Emaciated Puppy Found, Owners Sought

Dolce puppyAn 8-month old tan, female lab-beagle mix was found emaciated on Union Street in Amsterdam over the weekend and now authorities are looking for the puppy’s owner.

The puppy, named “Dolce,” was taken by the Amsterdam Police to the SPCA of Montgomery County and treated. Authorities say she is suffering from tremors. Police say they got a call Sunday, Aug. 25, but when they got there, no owners could be found and “Dolce” appeared to have been abandoned and was in need of emergency medical treatment.

“Dolce” was taken to the Country Valley Veterinary Clinic, on St. Hwy. 30, in Amsterdam and diagnosed with a severe case of malnutrition as well as suffering from dangerously low sodium levels; the low sodium levels could be the result of near drowning, authorities said. The puppy only weighed 24 pounds and should weigh closer to 40-45 pounds, according to veterinary staff. “Dolce” is currently suffering from tremors and is under the constant care of veterinary staff until her condition improves.

The Amsterdam Police Dept. is asking anyone who may have information regarding the abused dog to contact them and speak with an officer or animal control with any caller remaining anonymous if they want to be.

If anyone wishes to make a donation to the SPCA for the mounting medical bills for “Dolce,” they can be made at the Country Valley Veterinary Clinic in Amsterdam.
