Elderly man murdered, woman arrested

UPDATE - 2/7 3pm: 35 year old Sara Moore of Wynantskill has been charged with 2nd degree murder in the case.  Here's the release from Albany Police:

A 35 year old Wynantskill woman has been charged in connection with a homicide on Woodside Drive.

On Thursday February 6, 2014 at approximately 2:45 p.m., staff from TD Bank in Colonie notified the Albany police that, while on the phone with their client, a TD Bank representative heard what sounded to be some type of altercation within the client’s home. The bank was in contact regarding a woman who had earlier entered the bank and attempted to cash a personal check from the client’s checking account. Upon arrival at the client’s home at 40 Woodside Drive, Albany, officers located a critically-injured, unresponsive male inside.

The victim, Richard Englander, 79, was treated at the scene by medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Shortly after police arrival on Woodside Drive, the same woman, who had earlier attempted to cash the victim’s check, entered the same TD Bank and attempted to cash another of the victim’s checks. Bank staff refused to cash the check and notified the police.

Sara Moore, 35, of Wynantskill, was stopped near the bank by the Colonie Police and identified as the woman who attempted to cash the check that belonged to the victim of the homicide.

Moore was arrested following an investigation by Albany detectives and charged in connection with the homicide.

Moore was charged with Murder 2nd.

She was arraigned in the Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.

Moore was recently hired by the victim as a live-in helper to assist him with regular day-to-day tasks.
