Troopers have cleared a tractor-trailer from the NYS Thruway south between Exits 23 and 22 it’s reopened. The fatal truck accident around 3 a.m. had forced the closure of the southbound lanes for part of the morning rush.
State police say the accident happened after the driver pulled off the highway to inspect a problem with the rig. State police Sgt. Tom Ferritto says the truck somehow began to roll and ran over what troopers presume was the driver and continued on its own across the highway, blocking both lanes.
State police had closed the entire section of the Thruway between Exits 24 and 23 for four hours and were diverting all southbound traffic around the accident, which occurred just south of Exit 23 in the Town of Bethlehem.
