Celebration of film and a chance to show off.

The Palace Theatre in Albany has installed a new digital projector and plans to add more screenings to the theater's calendar, including movie premieres, current releases and film series.

A triple-header will showcase the new equipment on Saturday, March 1,  beginning with a free screening of Despicable Me 2 at 2pm. Shakespeare in Love will be screened at 5 p.m. and Argo at 8 p.m. Tickets are required for the free community screening. Tickets for the two evening films are $5 each.

According to a release the purchase and installation of the projector is partially funded through a $76,500 grant from New York State’s third annual Regional Economic Development Council Awards through the New York State Council on the Arts' Digital Film Projector Conversion Program. The equipment will also meet the technical requirements of some visiting performing artists and productions and provide the ability to screen live broadcasts, such as concerts and theatrical productions.

The Palace has retained its existing projection system and will continue to show classic films in 35 mm format.
