Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings is not running for re-election

After serving as Albany's Mayor for nearly 20 years, Jerry Jennings has decided not to run for re-election this fall. The Democrat would be seeking his sixth consecutive term.

In a statement released Tuesday evening by e-mail, Jennings said "the time has come for a new chapter to be written." We expect a news conference later Wednesday for Jennings to address questions about his career and future.

With Jennings out of the race, former councilman Corey Ellis and City Treasurer Kathy Sheehan will vie for the democratic nomination.
